A new data protection law is being considered by the UK government, and one of the changes would allow charities to send marketing messages to individuals by electronic mail without needing consent in some cases (called soft opt-in). This will provide charities with significant opportunities to engage with more people about their work and ways of supporting them.

This 60-minute webinar, a partnership with Nick Swain from Zorva Consulting, has now concluded. Nick is an experienced data protection professional and an organisational member of the Evangelical Alliance.

The webinar was provided free to Evangelical Alliance members and was aimed at those involved in fundraising or supporter communications, individuals overseeing compliance with the UK GDPR and other data protection regulations, those responsible for CRM or donor databases, and managers or board members making related management decisions.

The session covered:

  • The existing data protection rules.
  • Anticipated new data protection rules.
  • The implications for fundraising, supporter communications, data protection, CRM systems, fundraising databases, and email marketing (such as MailChimp).
  • Recommended actions to take before the new law takes effect.
  • How to find advice and stay updated on new guidance.
